CHATTOGRAM, May 10, 2026 (BSS) - Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin today stressed the need for 100 percent implementation of the free Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccination campaign for children aged 6-59 months in every district and upazila of Chattogram division.
In this regard, he sought coordination among all concerned for the campaign’s success.
Dr. Ziauddin likened the measles outbreak to a disaster and stressed the need to intensify activities in areas where vaccination coverage is low.
He came up with the observation at the coordination meeting of the divisional committee overseeing the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign, held at the conference room of his office today.
Dr. Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, Chattogram Divisional Director (Health), highlighted the ongoing publicity and campaigning efforts to ensure the success of the measles-rubella (MR) vaccination campaign. The target in Chattogram Division is to vaccinate 42.96 lakh children aged 6-59 months by April 5, with a current vaccination rate of 98.3 percent as of May 9, he informed.
Children in this age group, whether registered or not, are being provided with a free dose of the MR vaccine through door-to-door visits and designated centers.
The program will run at the district and metropolitan levels until May 20.
As of May 9, vaccination rates were 89.7% in Chattogram City Corporation area, 98.2% in Chattogram district, 99.7% in Cox's Bazar district, 99.6% in Noakhali district, 99.4% in Cumilla City Corporation area, 99.4% in Cumilla district, 99% in Chandpur district, 99% in Brahmanbaria district, 99% in Bandarban district, 98.5% in Lakshmipur district, 98.3% in Feni district, 98.1% in Khagrachhari district and 96.6% in Rangamati district.
In Chattogram division, there are a total of 164 permanent centers and 24,640 vaccination centers providing free MR vaccines daily from 8 am to 4 pm, excluding public holidays. To support the campaign, 1,150 mop-up teams and 16 evening teams are actively involved in administering the vaccine.
