Pahela Baishakh to be celebrated in Rajshahi amid festivity

RAJSHAHI, April 12, 2026 (BSS)- The district administration has undertaken 
various programmes to celebrate Pahela Baishakh 1433, the first day of 
Bengali New Year which falls on April 14, while it has drawn near to the 
door.

In the bond of unity in diversity, like the rest of the country, the day will 
be celebrated in Rajshahi with the participation of all in a proper, 
beautiful, grand and joyous environment. 
 
Chaitra 30 (day before Pahela Baishakh), 9:00 AM: An art camp will be held at 
Rajshahi Shimla Park, organised by the District Shilpakala Academy and the 
Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS).

Pahela Baishakh, 7:00 AM: A Baishakhi Shobhajatra (New Year procession) will 
be held from Rajshahi Botanical Garden and Zoo to Shishu Academy.

The national anthem and the song 'Esho He Baishakh' will be performed at 
Shishu Academy in the early morning followed by a discussion meeting, 
cultural programme, and other events at the same venue.

Two-day New Year Fair at Shishu Academy premises on first and second 
Baishakh. Gambhira, Alkap, dance performances by ethnic minority groups, and 
puppet shows will also be organised on the first day.

On the second day, baul and folk songs, and Jatra Pala (traditional folk 
theater) will be staged.

Essay competition and art competition will be held at Bangladesh Shishu 
Academy.

At a convenient time on Pahela Baishakh, traditional foods like khoi, muri, 
murki and batasa will be arranged at Rajshahi Central Jail, all hospitals, 
Shishu Paribar and Shishu Sadan.

Traditional cultural programmes with children from Shishu Paribar and 
performances by inmates will also be organised.
 
All educational institutions will celebrate Bangla New Year grandly under 
their own management at a convenient time.
 
On the occasion of the day, Varendra Research Museum and Rajshahi Botanical 
Garden and Zoo will remain open all day for children, adolescents, students, 
persons with disabilities, and children with special needs with free 
admission.
