KHULNA, April 12, 2026 (BSS) – Speakers at a day-long workshop today stressed that increasing the use of modern technology in agriculture is essential to boost production.
They said that in hybrid rice cultivation, the use of quality seeds, proper fertiliser application, timely irrigation and effective pest management are crucial for achieving higher yields.
The workshop on increasing hybrid rice production through the application of modern agricultural technologies was held in Dighalia upazila of Khulna.
Organised at 11 am at the Upazila Agriculture Office auditorium by BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprise, the workshop aimed to ensure higher yields of hybrid rice through improved cultivation techniques.
Regional Sales Manager of BRAC Seed Agriculturist Md Mostafizur Rahman Fizar presided over the event, while Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Kishore Ahmed attended as the chief guest.
The speakers noted that such training programmes play an important role in enhancing farmers’ knowledge and skills.
During the workshop, various hybrid rice varieties of BRAC Seed and their characteristics were presented.
They further said that proper cultivation methods can ensure higher yields of hybrid rice in a shorter period, thereby improving farmers’ economic conditions.
Detailed discussions were also held on all stages of cultivation, from land preparation to transplantation, crop management and harvesting.
An interactive question-and-answer session based on farmers’ practical experiences was also held, generating keen interest among participants.
Among others, Additional Agriculture Officer Nusrat Jahan, Agriculture Extension Officer Kapil Dev Basak, Junior Sector Specialist of BRAC Seed and Agro Enterprise Agriculturist Md Sadek Hossain, and Territory Sales Officer Md Zahid Hossain were present as special guests.
At the end of the workshop, ‘BRAC Hybrid-10’ rice seeds were distributed among participating farmers for the upcoming Aman season.
A total of 55 farmers from different unions of the upazila participated in the workshop.
