With this latest fatality, the death toll from measles symptoms in the Khulna
region has risen to 10.

both children who died in Khulna had come from Jhenidah district for
treatment.

Meanwhile, 51 new patients have been infected with measles-like symptoms.
The total number of infected patients has reached 1,095 across the 10
districts of the Khulna division. At present, 799 patients are admitted to
different hospitals, while the remaining patients have recovered after
receiving treatment.

Sources at Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) said that a two-year
old child named Chan died at around 2pm on Saturday at the KMCH's measles
isolation centre.

The death was confirmed by Dr. Syeda Rukhsana Parvin, head of the Pediatrics
Department at the hospital.

According to the admission register, the child, aged 23 months, was admitted
at around 11 am on Saturday with measles symptoms.

The child hailed from Kaliganj upazila of Jhenaidah district and was the son
of Golam Rasul and Yasmin Begum. The child succumbed to the illness while
undergoing treatment.

Dr. Syeda Rukhsana Parvin said the child was brought to the hospital in a
critical condition and was severely malnourished. Despite being eligible for
multiple vaccinations over the past 23 months, the child had not received any
vaccines.

Highest efforts were made to treat the patient, but the child passed away in
the afternoon.
