Motorcyclist, pillion passenger killed in Cox's Bazar road accident

COX'S BAZAR, April 4, 2026 (BSS) - A motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were killed in a head-on collision with a pickup van on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar highway today.

The accident occurred around 1:30 pm near Kharulia area of Jhilongja union in the Sadar upazila.

The deceased were identified as Md. Risan (19) from Muktarkul area and Md. Arafat (21) from Darga area of Jhilongja union in the district Sadar.

According to police and local sources, Risan, Arafat and their friend Sani set out from Darga area around noon on a motorcycle heading toward Banglabazar station. When they reached the vicinity of Kharulia High School, their motorcycle collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction. The motorcycle was severely damaged and all three riders were critically injured. 

Locals rushed them to Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared Risan and Arafat dead. Sani's condition remains critical, the doctors said.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Ramu Highway Crossing Police Station, Md. Nasir Uddin said the bodies of the deceased have been kept at the morgue of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Legal action is underway in connection with the accident.
