RAJSHAHI, April 4, 2026 (BSS)- Due to the rising outbreak of measles, the Administrator of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC), Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, visited Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) this morning to assess the overall situation, including measles treatment services.
During the visit, he inspected the ICU, pediatric ward, and several other wards of the hospital, and reviewed the overall status of treatment services, including those for measles.
After the visit, he briefed the journalists present.
Speaking to reporters, Administrator Mahfuzur Rahman said that the current government, led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is giving due attention to the healthcare sector.
He expressed hope that the number of ICU beds at RMCH and the children’s hospital would be increased.
He further stated that there is currently a shortage of ICU beds at RMCH, and efforts are underway to increase the number of beds as quickly as possible.
He assured that Rajshahi City Corporation will provide full cooperation to the hospital authorities in all aspects, including measles treatment.
The administrator also noted that compared to other parts of the country, the prevalence of measles is relatively lower in the Rajshahi city area.
He attributed this to increased awareness and caution among residents.
He expressed optimism that with collective efforts, the situation can be kept under control.
Under the EPI program, the city corporation is continuing measles vaccination activities, which will remain ongoing.
Additional support is being provided to wards where the outbreak is more severe.
He added that to raise awareness about measles prevention, RCC has been distributing informational leaflets.
Since Friday last, leaflet distribution and other awareness campaigns have been simultaneously carried out across all 30 wards of the city.
The city corporation is working tirelessly to ensure the well-being of residents and will continue such initiatives in the future.
During the visit, Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam, Director of RMCH Brigadier General PKM Masud-ul-Islam, Chief Executive Officer of RCC Rezaul Karim, Chief Health Officer Dr. FAM Anjuman Ara Begum, along with doctors and other concerned officials of the hospital, were present.
