Rally, human chain mark Earth Hour observance in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Mar 28, 2026 (BSS) - A rally, human chain and discussion were held here today to raise awareness about global warming and environmental protection, marking the observance of Earth Hour.

The program was organized by Bangladesh Scouts, Rajshahi District Rover, at the Rajshahi College Rover Den, with participation from unit leaders and rover scouts.

The event began with a rally from Rajshahi College, which passed through Moni Chattar and concluded at the Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar. A human chain was formed there by participating rovers before the group returned to the college premises.

Throughout the program, speakers emphasized the importance of preventing global warming, conserving energy and adopting environmentally friendly lifestyles.

At the discussion meeting, they noted that climate change is a growing global threat and stressed the need to build awareness at individual, family and community levels. They highlighted that Earth Hour is not merely a symbolic one-hour reduction in electricity use, but a global call for collective responsibility to protect the planet.

Earth Hour 2026, observed on March 28, marks 20 years of climate action under the theme "Give an Hour to Earth," encouraging people worldwide to reduce energy consumption and contribute to a sustainable, climate-resilient future.

Among those present were Rajshahi District Rover Vice President and Principal of Shah Makhdum College S. M. Rezaul Islam, Divisional Rover Leader Representative Dr. Md. Jahirul Islam, District Rover Secretary S. M. Mustafizur Rahman, RSL Representative Abdur Razzaq, District Senior Rover Mate Representative Rover Shishir, and Rover Sabbir.

Organizers said around 50 Rover and Girl-in-Rover Scouts from various educational institutions took part in the program. They also expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to promote environmental awareness and combat climate change.
