RAJSHAHI, March 5, 2026 (BSS) - A mobile court fined two establishments Tk 20,000 in the city for producing lachcha semai (vermicelli) without a Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) licence.
The court was conducted today at 2:30pm under the initiative of the BSTI Divisional Office in Rajshahi.
During the drive, M/S Ratul Bakery, in the BSCIC Industrial Area of the city, was fined Tk 10,000 for producing, selling and distributing lachcha semai in an unhygienic environment without obtaining BSTI certification and for illegally using the BSTI standard mark on its packaging.
Besides, M/S Yusuf Products in the same area was also fined Tk 10,000 for committing the same offences.
The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Samia Rahman of the Rajshahi District Administration.
Engineer Junayed Ahmed, an officer of the Certification Marks Wing of the BSTI Divisional Office, Rajshahi, served as the prosecutor during the operation.
Members of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police were present during the drive.
BSTI Rajshahi officials said such drives will continue regularly in the public interest to prevent adulteration and ensure the supply of quality food products.
