CUMILLA, Feb 24, 2026 (BSS) - Police have arrested an alleged member of an inter-district robbery gang while he was reportedly preparing to commit a robbery in Muradnagar upazila of the district.

The arrested was identified as Md. Faruk Hossain, 42, son of the late Abdul Halim of Shaliakandi Dakshinpara village under Shaliakandi union in Muradnagar upazila.

According to police, Faruk was apprehended on Monday night during a raid conducted in the Shaliakandi area along the Muradnagar-Elliottganj regional highway. 

Law enforcement officials said they launched the drive after receiving confidential information that a group was preparing to carry out a robbery in the area.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Mohammad Anwar Hossain Chowdhury of Muradnagar Police Station confirmed the matter and said there are six cases filed against him on charges including robbery, narcotics offenses and rape.

He was produced before a court in Cumilla on Tuesday afternoon, which subsequently sent him to jail.
