KHULNA, Feb 23, 2026 (BSS) – A discussion titled “Role of Teachers in Building a Drug-Free Society and Protecting Environment and Nature” was held at the Khulna PTI auditorium today.
Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Abu Sayeed Md. Monjur Alam addressed the function as the chief guest.
The event was organized by the Department of Narcotics Control, Khulna, with support from the Bir Muktijoddha Mobarak Ali Foundation.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said that to build a healthy nation and society, people must stay away from narcotics, adding that the problem can be eliminated through a social movement.
He observed that education begins within the family before institutional learning starts. Through proper education, individuals can develop desired behaviour and moral values. Teachers, he said, play a crucial role in guiding young students in the right direction.
Highlighting environmental issues, he said the country has yet to become as conscious as developed nations in protecting the environment, which has led to various complex diseases.
Protecting the environment and overcoming the devastating effects of drug addiction reflect the true identity of an educated person, he added.
Other speakers said modern digital devices can be as harmful as drugs if misused. Children are becoming increasingly addicted to such devices, which hampers the development of their mental and creative faculties.
Superintendent of Khulna PTI Tojammel Hossain presided over the meeting.
Among others, Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control SK Iftekhar Mohammad Umayen, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment Md. Harun-Or-Rashid, former vice-president of Government Brajalal College Advocate Sheikh Zakirul Islam, and Chairman of the Bir Muktijoddha Mobarak Ali Foundation Md. Rakibuzzaman spoke as special guests.
Assistant Superintendent of PTI Abdul Al Mamun Khan delivered the welcome speech, while civil society representative Ruma Mondol also addressed the meeting.
The programme was moderated by Advocate Sheikh Oliul Islam, Chief Adviser of the Bir Muktijoddha Mobarak Ali Foundation.
