Abid Traders fined for producing fake palm candy in Bogura

BOGURA, Feb 5, 2026 (BSS) - The District Food Safety Authority on Thursday 
fined a local establishment Taka 5 lakh for producing fake and unsafe palm 
candy (Tal Mishri) during a mobile court drive in the district town.

The drive was conducted in Atapara area of the town this afternoon, where 
authorities found that M/s Abid Traders was manufacturing palm candy using 
banned textile dyes and marketing it as baby food. Officials also discovered 
evidence of food production in an extremely unhygienic and unsanitary 
environment.

According to the mobile court, the establishment was involved in packaging 
palm candy in counterfeit wrappers and using harmful chemical dyes in the 
preparation of chanachur, semai and bundia, posing serious health risks to 
consumers.

Following the findings, the mobile court fined Abid Traders Taka 5 lakh. 
Unsafe baby food products and related materials were seized and destroyed 
publicly in accordance with legal procedures.

The mobile court was led by Executive Magistrate Faisal Ahmed. District Safe 
Food Officer Md. Russell and officials from the Bangladesh Safe Food 
Authority were present during the operation.

Authorities said such drives would continue to ensure food safety and protect 
public health.
