Lakshmipur police tighten security at 496 polling stations for JS polls, referendum

LAKSHMIPUR, Feb 4, 2026 (BSS) - Lakshmipur police have taken extensive security preparations ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Election and Referendum 2026, placing all 496 polling stations in the district under a strict security blanket for seven days.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Hossain Mohammad Raihan Kazemi told BSS today, saying that heightened security measures will remain in force from February 8-14.

"We are keeping a close watch to ensure that no untoward incident takes place anywhere," he said.

Lakshmipur district has four parliamentary constituencies and all polling centres have been categorised based on their importance. Of the total 496 polling stations, 215 have been identified as most important, 198 as important and 83 as general.

According to police sources, the area-wise distribution of polling centres is as follows: Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station: 122 centres (86 most important, 16 important and 20 general); Raipur: 82 centres (26 most important, 47 important and 9 general); Ramganj: 93 centres (30 most important and 63 important; no general centres); Ramgati: 67 centres (17 most important, 15 important and 35 general); Kamalnagar: 55 centres (16 most important, 36 important and three general) and Chandraganj: 77 centres (40 most important, 21 important and 13 general)

Raihan Kazemi said that each polling station will have two police personnel and 12 Ansar members on duty. Besides, police mobile teams, striking forces and executive magistrates will remain active in the field.

He also said that 10 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with army, RAB and plainclothes police members, will be deployed across the election areas to maintain law and order.

"The district police are determined to ensure a free, fair and impartial election for the people of Lakshmipur," he said.
