MAGURA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - On the occasion of National Safe Food Day, a quiz competition and discussion meeting were held in the district today to raise awareness about food safety and public health.
The programmme began at 10:00 am at the auditorium of Government Boys’ High School. It was organized by the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority in cooperation with the District Administration.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abdul Qader said that ensuring safe food is not solely the responsibility of the government, but a shared duty of both the state and citizens.
He warned that food adulteration and the use of harmful chemicals pose serious threats to public health and stressed the importance of increasing social awareness alongside strict enforcement of laws. He also urged all concerned departments to work in coordination to ensure proper implementation of the Safe Food Act.
District Food Safety Officer Suman Adhikari, speaking at the discussion, said quiz competitions play a vital role in raising food safety awareness among students. He emphasized that developing correct knowledge and habits related to safe food from an early age is essential for building a healthy future generation, highlighting the roles of families, educational institutions, and society in this effort.
Senior Health Education Officer Md. Zillur Rahman, Inspector Sultan representing the Superintendent of Police and District Education Officer Pradyut Kumar Das were present as special guests.
A total of 180 students from different educational institutions, including Government Boys’ High School, Adarsha Girls’ School, Police Lines School, Collectorate School, AG Academy, and Dudhmallik School, participated in the quiz competition.
Prizes were distributed among the winners at the end of the event.
Officials from the District Administration, representatives of the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, teachers, students, and people from various walks of life also attended the programmme.
