Quiz competition to promote safe food held in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - A quiz competition was held today in Rajshahi to raise students' awareness about safe food and to develop a basic understanding of consumer rights.

The event was jointly organized by the Rajshahi District Administration and the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority at River View Collectorate School in the city on the occasion of National Safe Food Day 2026.

A total of 180 students from grades five to ten of the school took part in the competition. The quiz featured questions on safe food, food adulteration, health risks, food preservation, and consumer responsibilities, giving students practical knowledge they can apply in everyday life.

At the conclusion of the competition, ten students were awarded commemorative certificates. Prizes were also distributed among the participants to encourage their active involvement. 

Rizwan Ahmed, a grade ten science student at River View Collectorate School, secured first place. Arnila Mahmud, a grade six student, came in second, while Ruhul Amin, a grade ten humanities student, finished third.

The prize-giving ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tuktuk Talukdar as chief guest. 

In her speech, she emphasized that ensuring safe food is not only the responsibility of the government but also requires awareness among all citizens. She noted that students can play a key role in spreading this message within their families and communities.

The keynote paper was presented by Food Safety Officer Md. Yamin Hossain, who said raising awareness is the most effective way to prevent food adulteration and that educating students today will help nurture a healthier generation in the future.

The program was chaired by Monowara Parvin, head teacher of River View Collectorate School. Special guests included District Food Controller Mohan Ahmed and Daily Sonar Desh editor Akbarul Hasan Millat.
