BOGURA, Feb 2, 2026 (BSS) - One worker was killed and at least four others were injured when the roof of an under-construction cold storage building collapsed in Dupchanchia upazila of the district on Sunday evening.

The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam , 35, a resident of Taraganj upazila in Rangpur district.

According to local sources, the accident occurred around 7:30 pm at Khanihara area under Chamrul union, while welding work was being carried out on the roof of the cold storage. 

Four workers were seriously injured in the incident and were taken to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for treatment. Aminul Islam was trapped beneath twisted iron rods and welding materials following the collapse.

Upon receiving the information, members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and conducted a rescue operation. After nearly three hours, the body of Aminul was recovered around 10:00 pm after clearing the debris.

Shariful Islam, Assistant Director of Bogura Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the body was recovered and sent to the Dupchanchia Upazila Health Complex.

Afzal Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dupchanchia Police Station, confirmed the incident and said the matter was under investigation.

Necessary legal action will be taken after completion of the investigation, he added.
