MAGURA, Jan 29, 2026 (BSS) - An 'Imam Conference 2026' was held in the district auditorium today to promote the upcoming referendum and motivate voters to participate actively.
The conference, organized by the Islamic Foundation Magura, began at 10:00 am and was attended by imams, khatibs and religious scholars from different upazilas of the district.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mahmud said the referendum is an important democratic process that allows people to directly express their opinions. He emphasized the need to raise public awareness to ensure meaningful and participatory voting, noting that imams and religious leaders can play a significant role in this regard.
He added that mosque-based discussions can help motivate people about the importance of the referendum, the exercise of voting rights and the need to maintain a peaceful environment.
Magura Police Superintendent Md Habibur Rahman, speaking as a special guest, said participation in the referendum is both a constitutional right and civic responsibility of citizens. He expressed optimism that the active involvement of religious leaders would foster a positive mindset among the public and help ensure a peaceful referendum.
Magura Civil Surgeon Md Shamim Kabir said combining religious values with democratic principles can help maintain social stability and order. He added that collective efforts by the imam community would help remove confusion surrounding the referendum.
Speaking as a special discussant, Imam and Khatib of Magura Central Jame Mosque Mufti Md Habibur Rahman said Islam teaches peace, justice and responsibility. He described participation in the referendum as a civic duty and said imams and khatibs would encourage people through sermons and speeches to exercise their voting rights while maintaining peace.
Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation Magura, Muhammad Mujib Ullah Farhad presided over the conference.
Around 750 imams, khatibs and religious scholars from across the district attended the conference.
