CHATTOGRAM, Jan 28, 2026 (BSS)- Two people, including a female Madrasha student, were killed and three others injured when a speeding truck rammed into a parked CNG auto-rickshaw in front of Zahedia Madrasha near Baratakia bazar on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Mirsarai upazila this morning.
One of the deceased was identified as Khadija Mashmum, 16, a Class X student of the madrasah. The identity of the other victim could not be confirmed immediately.
Police and witnesses said the accident took place when the truck driver lost control of the steering while heading towards Chattogram and hit a parked auto rickshaw loaded with passengers in front of the Madrasha at about 9 a.m., causing it to plunge into a nearby pond, leaving five persons were injured critically.
The injured persons were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, but the duty doctor confirmed the death of one instantly, while another one succumbed to his injuries there. The rest were admitted here.
The accident led to severe traffic congestion on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway for several hours.
Assistant Police Super (Mirsharai Circle) Nadim Haider confirmed the accident. He also said the Fire-Service, thana police and highway police jointly conducted the rescue operation and restored vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Ctg highway.
