12 journos injured in terrorist attack in Narsingdi

DHAKA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - At least 12 journalists were injured in an attack by extortionists and terrorists in front of Dream Holiday Park in Madhabdi of Narsingdi this evening.

The attack occurred while the journalists were returning to Dhaka by bus after attending a Family Day programme organised by the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB).

The injured journalists include Faiz Ahmed, Shahidul Islam Shahed, Mohsin Kabir, Sakhawat Kawsar and CRAB staff member Lal, among others.

The seriously injured were rushed to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, the bus was temporarily parked by the roadside in front of Dream Holiday Park when a group of local extortionists forcibly demanded tolls. As the journalists protested, an altercation ensued, after which the attackers assaulted them with locally made weapons.

Among the injured, six professional journalists sustained serious injuries to the head and other vital parts of their bodies.

During the attack, the assailants allegedly threatened the journalists with weapons and issued death threats, including threats to burn the wives and children who were inside the vehicle carrying the journalists.

Police have so far arrested two people in connection with the incident.

Narsingdi Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Abdullah Al-Faruk told BSS that police rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the information and arrested two suspects.

"Efforts are underway to identify and arrest the other perpetrators. A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act is being recorded at Madhabdi Police Station. Extortionists and terrorists will not be spared, and all those involved will be brought to justice," he said.

Officer-in-Charge of Madhabdi Police Station Md Kamal Hossain said that two suspects have so far been arrested and that drives are continuing to arrest the remaining attackers.

CRAB President Mirza Mehedi Tamal told BSS that the organisation is filing a case with Madhabdi Police Station over the attack, adding that no leniency would be shown to extortionists and terrorists.
