Polling officers training begins in Netrokona

NETROKONA, Jan 26, 2026 (BSS) - A two-day training workshop for polling officers began on Sunday in Durgapur upazila of the district to ensure the smooth and credible conduct of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections and referendum.

The training, organized by the Election Training Institute (ETI), Dhaka, is being held at Dini Alim Madrasa auditorium in Durgapur Municipality. Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Md. Saifur Rahman inaugurated the workshop and attended as the chief guest in the programme.

Upazila Executive Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Afroza Afsana presided over the inaugural session while Police Superintendent Md. Tariqul Islam, District Election Officer Md. Tofail Hossain and Additional District Magistrate Wahiduzzaman attended as special guests.

Addressing the participants, the chief guest said the administration would adopt a zero-tolerance policy to ensure fair, free and acceptable elections. "No kind of irregularities will be tolerated," he said, adding that four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), along with additional police, village police and army members, would be deployed in Durgapur upazila to maintain law and order on polling day.

Durgapur Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Al Imranul Alam, Upazila Election Officer Farhad Hasan Azad and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Durgapur Police Station Mahmudul Hasan were also present at the workshop.
A total of 65 presiding officers, 405 assistant presiding officers and around 900 polling officers from 61 polling stations in the upazila are taking part in the training.

During the two-day programme, participants are being provided with detailed guidance on election laws, rules and regulations, as well as the technical aspects of the voting process.
