BAGERHAT, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - A two-day training programme for polling officers began today in Mollahat upazila of Bagerhat-1 constituency in preparation for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum 2026.
The training was inaugurated at the Government Wazed Memorial Model Secondary School at 10:00 am.
Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Golam Md Baten attended the inaugural session as the chief guest, while Superintendent of Police Md Hasan Chowdhury was present as the special guest.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Assistant Returning Officer Shyamananda Kundu presided over the programme.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Golam Md Baten said the role of polling officers is crucial in ensuring a free, fair and impartial election.
"You are the key force in conducting elections at the field level. If you perform your duties in accordance with laws, rules and regulations, it will be possible to earn the trust of the people," he said, urging participants to apply the knowledge gained from the training in practical fieldwork.
District Election Officer Md Abu Ansar said every step of the election process is highly sensitive and that even a small mistake could lead to major complications.
"There is no alternative to strictly following the guidelines provided in this training and carrying out duties with professionalism and impartiality," he added.
The special guests, in their speeches, stressed the importance of honesty, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility while performing election duties.
According to officials, a total of 49 presiding officers, 262 assistant presiding officers, and 524 polling officers are participating in the training in Mollahat upazila.
The training covers polling station management, ballot and EVM handling, voter assistance, and key issues to be addressed during the election. Officials expressed hope that the programme would enhance the efficiency and accountability of polling officers during the voting process.
