MANIKGANJ, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - A total of 1,08,566 metric tons of mustard is expected to be produced from 68,947 hectares of land during the current season across seven upazilas of the district, according to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
DAE officials said a production target has already been set for the season. They added that most farmers in the district cultivate mustard after harvesting Aman paddy, and following the mustard harvest, the same land is brought under Boro paddy cultivation.
Ahmad Ali (52), a mustard farmer from Gilanda village under Sadar upazila, said mustard cultivation and harvesting are comparatively easy and require no irrigation. He also said that mustard, being an oilseed crop, enjoys strong market demand throughout the year.
Deputy Director of DAE Shahjahan Siraj said the soil of Manikganj district is highly suitable for mustard cultivation. He added that farmers are increasingly showing interest in growing mustard as it is a profitable crop.
