3 drug peddlers held with 1,300 bottles of liquor in Sherpur

SHERPUR, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested three alleged drug peddlers along with 1,300 bottles of foreign liquor during an operation in Sadar upazila here last night.

The RAB team set up a check post in Moksedpur Nayapara area along the Sherpur-Jamalpur highway around 8:30 pm, according to a press release issued by the RAB-14 Jamalpur camp this afternoon.

Acting on secret information, RAB members signaled a suspicious truck to stop at the check post. Sensing the presence of law enforcement, the occupants of the truck attempted to flee but were detained by RAB personnel.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md. Minal Mia, 32, Md. Riyad Hossain, 28, and Md. Nurul Amin, 34, all residents of Jhenaigati upazila. 

During interrogation, they admitted to transporting illegal foreign liquor. Based on their statements, RAB recovered 1,300 bottles of foreign liquor concealed inside the truck.

The estimated market value of the seized liquor is approximately Taka 70 lakh, the release said.

Major Asif Al-Rajek, Company Commander of RAB-14, said that the arrested individuals have been handed over to Sherpur Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings.
