Training of presiding officers held in Maheshpur

JHENAIDAH, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - A day-long training workshop for presiding officers was held today in Maheshpur upazila of the district in preparation for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election and referendum.

A total of 120 presiding officers from the upazila participated in the training, where they received detailed instructions on polling-day responsibilities, maintenance of law and order, ballot management, and relevant election rules and regulations.

The training was organized by the Election Training Institute at the auditorium of Maheshpur Government Degree College, starting at 10:00 am. 

Deputy Commissioner and District Returning Officer Md. Abdullah Al Masud attended the workshop as the chief guest.

Speaking at the event, Md. Abdullah Al Masud emphasized the importance of maintaining maximum impartiality while performing election duties. Referring to the aspirations of the 24th mass uprising, he said election responsibilities must be carried out with transparency to ensure that the upcoming polls serve as a model of fair and impartial elections.

Police Superintendent Mahfuz Afzal, District Election Officer Abul Hossain, Assistant District Magistrate Nirmal Kanti Talukder and Maheshpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khadija Akhter attended the event as special guests.

Addressing the participants, Superintendent of Police Mahfuz Afzal said that law enforcement agencies, including the police, would remain on the highest alert to ensure the security of polling centers and election officials. 

He added that instructions have been issued to strengthen coordination and communication between law enforcement agencies and election authorities.
