With this objective, a training workshop on election-time journalism was inaugurated this morning at the conference room of the Liberation War Memorial Stadium in the city.
The workshop has been organized by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), with overall cooperation from the Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ).

The session was moderated by Mohammad Shah Alam, a trainer from PIB’s Study and Training Department.
The speakers stated that election-time journalism is a highly sensitive and risky responsibility. During this period, rumors, fake news, propaganda, and misleading content on social media emerge as major challenges for journalism.
In such situations, they emphasized, journalists must have a clear understanding of relevant laws, codes of conduct, and professional ethics to ensure truthful and objective reporting.
The speakers further noted that the role of the media is extremely important in ensuring a free, fair, and credible electoral process. When journalists responsibly verify information and maintain balance by presenting views from all sides, public trust increases and the democratic process is strengthened.
The training workshop will cover a range of important topics, including Election Commission guidelines, electoral laws and codes of conduct, risk management in field reporting, responsible journalism on digital platforms, and strategies for identifying and combating fake news.
According to the organizers, such training will not only enhance journalists’ professional skills but also play an effective role in addressing the various challenges that arise during election periods, thereby further enriching the standard of responsible journalism in the public interest.
