GAIBANDHA, Jan 24, 2026 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today sought votes from the people to form a justice- and insaf-based government that would ensure security and welfare for all citizens.

He said this while addressing an election rally at SM Pilot High School ground in Palashbari Upazila town this morning. District Jamaat Ameer Md Abdul Karim presided over the programme.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman said that in the last 16 years, no notable development was carried out in the northern region, which led to the rivers of the area drying up. "Initiatives would be taken to bring the rivers back to life to increase agricultural production and ensure food security," he said.

The Jamaat Ameer said Bangladesh would turn into a fertile country if his party is voted to power.

He added that unemployed youth would be brought under technical training so that their hands could be turned into working hands. As many types of agricultural crops are produced in the district, he said two agriculture universities would be established.

Dr Shafiqur Rahman also mentioned a prior decision to establish an EPZ in the district, which was not implemented. "We will implement the decision on a priority basis to create employment opportunities for local youth," he said.

He assured the people of plans to construct a bridge between Balashi and Bahadurabad Ghat over the Brahmaputra River to ease communication and promote development in the district.

Later, the Jamaat Ameer introduced five MP candidates of the party and urged the people to vote for them in their respective constituencies.
