Four illegal brick kilns demolished in Jhenaidah, fined Tk 20 lakh

JHENAIDAH, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) - The Department of Environment today demolished the chimneys of four illegally constructed brick kilns in different villages of Shailkupa upazila in the district and imposed a total fine of Taka 20 lakh.

The action was taken on Wednesday afternoon through a mobile court conducted by Momtaz Begum, Executive Magistrate of the Khulna Divisional Office of the Department of Environment.

Md. Muntasir Rahman, Assistant Director of the Jhenaidah Department of Environment, said the brick kiln operators were violating the Brick Manufacturing and Kiln Establishment Control Act-2013 by using firewood and running the kilns without legal authorization.

The demolition targeted Shah Bricks and Milan Bricks in Dudhsar village, as well as M/S Molla Bricks and M/S. Ratul Bricks in Kumiradaha village. Each kiln was fined Taka 5 lakh, totaling Taka 20 lakh in fines.

Md. Muntasir Rahman added that during the operation, the owners signed bonds promising not to run brick kilns illegally in the future. He also stated that the Department's campaign against unauthorized brick kilns will continue across the district.
