RANGPUR, Jan 21, 2026 (BSS) – At a workshop today, experts called on journalists to play their due role in ensuring a fair energy transition and energy justice by adopting a national energy transformation policy and removing all obstacles to this process.

The Rangpur District Committee of CAB organised the workshop titled ‘Fair energy transition and energy justice’ at the conference room of ESDO Training Center in the city.

The workshop was organized to engage the journalist community in the social movement demanding the adoption of the Bangladesh Energy Transition Policy, 2024, proposed by CAB for a just energy transition.

District CAB President Md Abdur Rahman presided over the event participated by 50 people, including 30 media workers and 20 CAB members from Rangpur.

CAB Project Coordinator Marufa Koli introduced the objectives of the workshop and CAB activities.

CAB Research Coordinator Engineer Shuvo Kibria spoke about energy transfer while its Research Associate Anis Raihan discussed energy justice.

CAB Youth Parliamentarian Arafi Siraji Antar discussed in detail the 13-point demand of CAB for setting limits on fair energy transfer.

Teacher, writer, researcher and disaster expert Gauhar Naeem Wara discussed the role of journalists in changing fair energy.

he experts discussed the long-standing political influence, inefficiency and corruption in the energy sector in Bangladesh.

As a result, the situation has led to a predatory increase in electricity and primary energy supply expenditure and the increase in prices and subsidies has reached its peak, while the economy and public life are endangered due to the severe energy crisis.

The existing problems are not just technical or economic, but deeply related to social and fairness issues. Moreover, energy is a fundamental right of people and an integral part of the overall development process.

They said that the reality of energy and energy transformation is that energy is the lifeblood of modern civilization. Energy is an integral part of every sector, from food, clothing, housing, education, healthcare to industry and agriculture.

Although the source of almost all energy in the world is the sun, the ownership of fossil fuel resources existing in the land and sea belongs to the people. The Constitution of Bangladesh has clearly recognized this ownership.

But in reality, a class of powerful elites and influential business groups has created a self-interested circle around these resources by undermining the rights of the people.
As a result, the energy sector is held hostage by influential groups instead of the people.

They said, in this context, the CAB proposed Bangladesh Energy Transformation Policy, 2024 is a timely initiative that aims to ensure a fair energy transition by recognizing the right to energy as a fundamental human right and establishing energy justice.
