BARISHAL, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS) – The two-day ‘Election Journalism Training’ for local journalists begun today aimed at enhancing the professional skills of journalists ahead of the upcoming general elections.
Organized by the Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB), the training is being held at Barishal Press Club meeting room and brings together 50 journalists from the district.
Deputy Editor of the daily ‘Amar Desh’ Sultan Mahmud inaugurated the event as the chief guest at 10 am.
Speaking on the occasion, Sultan Mahmud said elections are not merely a voting process but a crucial chapter that determines the future of a democratic state. He emphasized that journalists bear one of the most sensitive and important responsibilities during elections.
He stressed the need for journalists to have a clear understanding of reporting details, contemporary contexts, election-related laws and policies, as well as physical and digital security.
The workshop was presided over by PIB Coordinator Zilhaj Uddin Nipun. Special guests included Barisal Press Club Acting President Humayun Kabir, Barisal District Journalists Union General Secretary Md Hafizur Rahman Hira, and Barisal Reporters Unity General Secretary Khalid Saifullah. The programme was moderated by Barisal District Journalists Union President Azad Alauddin.
