RAJSHAHI, Jan 20, 2026 (BSS)- In an exceptional celebration set against the backdrop of winter nature and culture, a unique event titled the 'Sunbathing Festival' was held here today.
The festival took place at the premises of Rajshahi New Government Degree College, organized by the Department of Zoology.
The college playground presented an extraordinary and lively view centred on the festival.
The entire area buzzed with joy under the winter sun, accompanied by the tempting aroma of traditional pithas.
Students set up a variety of stalls here and offer different kinds of winter pitha and other delicacies.
At the same time, students and guests were seen sitting in rows of chairs on the college grounds, enjoying the warmth of the winter sunshine.
Explaining the objective of the festival, organizer Professor Dr Saidur Rahman said that various seasonal events are observed throughout the year, such as Pahela Baishakh, Chaitra Sankranti, or monsoon festivals, but winter, apart from pitha festivals, usually lacks such celebrations.
With this in mind, the 'Sunbathing Festival' was organized with students. The main aim was to enjoy winter sunshine, nature, and joy together. Students also expressed their satisfaction with the initiative.
Mainul Islam Toha, a participating student from the Department of Zoology, said that such an initiative by their teacher was truly unique.
"We have been setting up pitha stalls since morning. Sitting in the open field and enjoying the winter sun feels really good," he added.
Another student in the department, Wahida Meghla, mentioned that such events alongside academic activities help refresh their minds and create opportunities to spend quality time with friends.
She said she felt happy to be introduced to a new and enjoyable experience.
With spontaneous participation from both teachers and students, the day-long festival became remarkable and lively.
The organizers hope that such unique initiatives will add a new dimension to the practice of winter culture and traditions in educational institutions in the future.
