RAJSHAHI, Jan 19, 2026 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here today unanimously viewed that strengthening coordinated initiatives of government and non-government entities concerned can be the crucial means of preventing violence against women and girl children.

They said violence against women and girl children is a multidimensional social problem linked to various familial, social, and economic factors.

Government officials and development activists observed while addressing an advocacy dialogue organized by BRAC's Gender Justice and Diversity Programme at Paba Upazila conference hall.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Arafat Aman Aziz, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station Masuma Mostari, Secondary Education Officer Motahar Hossain, Social Services Officer Mohammad Hossain Khan, Upazila Women Affairs Officer Fatema Khatun and Upazila Press Club President Kazi Nazmul Islam, among others, addressed the dialogue.

BRAC's Regional Manager Apurba Saha presented a concept paper on the redress and prevention of violence against women and girl children moderated by BRAC District Coordinator Mohasin Ali.

The speakers said that despite the existence of laws, many incidents remain unreported due to a lack of awareness, social silence, and the fear and shame of victims.

To overcome these challenges, a coordinated effort among the local administration, elected representatives, law enforcement agencies, and non-governmental organizations is essential.

In her remarks, Masuma Mostari said it is crucial to ensure the prompt acceptance of complaints and legal assistance in cases of violence against women and girl children.

She noted that many victims lack the courage to file complaints due to social pressure and fear, and in such cases, the support of families and neighbours is essential.
Arafat Aman Aziz said child marriage is one of the main causes of violence against women and girl children.

In this regard, parents must provide correct information and values to their children.

He emphasized that guardians must be aware of issues related to addressing and preventing violence against women and girl children, and that parent meetings and courtyard gatherings should be effectively utilized to create awareness at the social and family levels.
