SYLHET, Jan 18, 2026 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth around Tk 2 crore in a series of operations conducted in different border areas of Sylhet.
The seizures were made by members of the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) following receipt of secret information. The operations were carried out on Sunday at Banglabazar, Pratappur, Bichnakandi, and the Sangram border areas, under the jurisdiction of the BGB-48 battalion.
The seized items include a large quantity of Indian cosmetic products such as Nivea Soft Cream, Pond's Bright Beauty Face Wash and Clop G Cream, along with olive oil, soap, sunglasses, energy drinks, tea leaves, chocolates and betel nuts.
In addition, food items including grapes, pomegranates, oranges, cumin and onions were recovered. The BGB also seized cows and Bangladeshi horn fish during anti-smuggling drives.
Lieutenant Colonel Nazmul Haque, commander of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), said BGB's regular operational and intelligence activities are continuing to ensure border security and to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking.
"As part of these ongoing efforts, a significant quantity of smuggled goods has been seized from the border areas," he said, adding that legal action would be taken in accordance with existing rules regarding the seized items.
