“The joint force team conducted raids from midnight to Thursday morning in Dighalia and Agrahati areas of the upazila,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Md. Abdur Rahman on Thursday afternoon.

The arrested persons are Tofail Mondal, 26, son of Md. Kamruzzaman Mondal of Dighalia village under Dighalia union, Md. Russell Biswas, 20, son of Tabibur Biswas of Lahuria Daharpara village, Ismail Hossain alias Pintu, 50, son of late Nur Islam Gazi of Boishkhali village in Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira district and Aminur Gazi, 45, son of late Tofazzal Gazi of the same village.

Acting on a tip-off, members of the joint forces first conducted a raid at the residence of Tofail Mondal in the Dighalia area. During the search, a foreign-made pistol along with a magazine was recovered from a wardrobe in the house. The recovery was made following Tofail’s confession.

Later, the joint forces, accompanied by Tofail, raided a fish enclosure belonging to Chhotan Mollya in the Agrahati area, where three more accused—Russell, Pintu and Aminur—were arrested.

Based on information, provided by them, the forces recovered a large cache of locally made weapons, including an air gun and bullets, from different locations inside the enclosure.

OC Md. Abdur Rahman said the operation was part of a regular drive to recover illegal weapons.

The arrested individuals were later produced before a court and sent to jail, the OC added.
