RAJSHAHI, Jan 4, 2026 (BSS)- Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged cybercriminal from a village in the district on Saturday afternoon.

A RAB press release said this noon that the arrestee has been identified as Maruf Hossain, 29, son of Rafiqul Islam of Krisnawati Bogdamari village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid at Gopalpur bypass area under the Godagari upazila around 5:50pm.

The release said Maruf identifying himself as a RAB officer made a phone call to Nuruzzaman Khan, Chairman of a garments factory in Narayanganj, saying there is a need for money for distributing winter clothes. In response to the call, he gave Taka 5,00,000 to a bank account subsequently. But the mobile number was found switched off when contacted repeatedly.
 
After a few times, Ismail Hossain Chowdhury, manager of the factory, had lodged a case in this connection.
