ACC files case against PDB officer, wife in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 31, 2025 (BSS) - The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against a Power Development Board (PDB) official and his wife accusing them of amassing wealth far beyond their known source of income.

The case was registered at ACC Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 today (Wednesday), Deputy Director of ACC Chattogram Integrated District Office-1 Subel Ahmed confirmed the matter to BSS. 

The accused individuals are- Ferdousi Begum (52) and her husband Md. Fazle Elahi (58), residents of Bhimpur village in Chatkhil upazila of Noakhali district.

Fazle Elahi, Deputy Director (Accounts and Finance) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Chattogram Regional Office, resides in the Halishahar residential area of Chattogram city. 

According to ACC, Ferdousi Begum has acquired wealth about Tk 20.80 lakh in a manner inconsistent with her known source of income.

The case has been filed against Ferdousi Begum under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004. 
Additionally, her husband, Fazle Elahi, faces charges under Section-109 of the Penal Code for allegedly acquiring wealth in his wife's name illegally.

An ACC investigation revealed that as of June 30, 2017, Ferdousi Begum had a substantial amount of movable assets in her name. 

These assets included shares in industrial companies, bank deposits, stock market investments, and shares in cooperative societies, totaling Tk 56,13,831. 

During the same period, she spent Tk 33,84,400 on family and other expenses. 

Consequently, her total acquired wealth amounted to Tk 89,98,231.

The investigation revealed that Ferdousi Begum's legitimate income was over 69.19 lakh. 

However, the assets she possessed were valued at nearly 20.80 lakh which is more than her known source of income. 

It was also found that she did not have the financial means to purchase these assets on her own.
Instead, her husband, Md. Fazle Elahi, who worked at the Bangladesh Power Development Board, assisted her in acquiring the wealth illegally from his husband’s own earnings.
