NATORE, Dec 30, 2025 (BSS) - The district unit of BNP has launched a seven-
day mourning programme following the passing of former Prime Minister and BNP
Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
The week-long mourning initiative will include various activities, including
continued Quran recitation and further symbolic gestures of respect to honor
her legacy and pay respects to the late leader.
On Tuesday morning, the national and party flags were lowered to half-mast at
the district BNP office, and a black flag was hoisted to mark the start of
the mourning period.
In addition, a condolence book was placed at the party office for the public
to sign, allowing people to express their condolences. Quran recitation also
began early in the day at the party office.
Advocate M. Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, BNP-nominated candidate for Natore-2
constituency, expressed deep sorrow while wearing a black badge. He described
Begum Khaleda Zia as "a symbol of unity for the entire nation," highlighting
her role as a steadfast guardian of the country's independence, sovereignty,
and democracy. "Her absence leaves a void that will remain unfilled for
generations," he remarked.
District BNP convener Rahim Newaz stated that the mourning programme would be
observed across the district, extending from the district BNP office to the
grassroots and upazilas.
The death of Begum Khaleda Zia, a towering figure in Bangladesh politics, has
led to an outpouring of grief across the country, with supporters and leaders
alike reflecting on her contributions to the nation.
