THAKURGAON, Dec 29, 2025 (BSS) – BSRI Director General Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed said that fostering entrepreneurship among the July warriors can create significant employment opportunities in emerging sectors related to sugar crops, including coconut.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a training program here during the Youth Festival-2025, aimed at motivating young people to become entrepreneurs through various technologies developed by BSRI.
The Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI) Thakurgaon Regional Centre organized the program titled “Honey Production Techniques and Healthy Granular Molasses Production and Storage Techniques for Young Entrepreneurs.”
Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed said, “Initially, the Sugar Crop Research Institute focused solely on sugar production from sugarcane. Now, enriched with advanced international ideas, its activities have significantly expanded.”
“We have started research activities on pulses, dates, stevia, almonds, coconuts and even grapes. Currently, the production of healthy sugar from stevia, which is free from the harmful effects of white sugar, is also being done on a priority basis in the country,” he added.
The program was presided over by BSRI Thakurgaon Regional Centre Chief Research Officer and Station In-charge Dr. Md. Sohrab Hossain. Special guests included BSRI Director (Research) Dr. Md. Ataur Rahman and Director (TOT) Dr. Selina Akhtar, among others.
