GAIBANDHA, Dec 28, 2025 (BSS)- A woman was killed and eight others were injured in a road accident in the Balkchar area on the Bogura-Rangpur Highway under Gobindaganj Upazila of the district on Saturday evening.

The deceased was identified as Alta Begum, 65, wife of late Azahar Ali of Puntair village under Mohimaganj Union of the upazila.

Family sources said Alta Begum and her family members were returning home by a battery-run van after attending a post-marriage ceremony in Kamardaho Union on Saturday evening. When the van reached the Balkchar area, a microbus hit it from behind, causing Alta Begum to fall to the ground. She died on the spot.

On information, Fire Service personnel rushed to the scene and recovered the body. They rescued the injured and took them to the Upazila Health Complex. Later, four of the injured were referred to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for better treatment.

Officer-in-Charge of Gobindaganj Highway Thana Mozaffar Rahman said the body was handed over to the deceased's relatives following legal procedures.
