MYMENSINGH, Dec 25, 2025 (BSS) - Russel Pathan (38), joint convener of Mymensingh Metropolitan Jubo League and an accused in a July warrior murder case, was arrested today from Benapole Immigration Checkpoint in Jashore while trying to flee to India.
Police said arrested Russel Pathan is the son of Abdur Razzaq Pathan of Sankipara area in the city. His passport number is A08913913. According to immigration sources, when he submitted his passport at the Benapole immigration desk to travel to India, his name appeared on the immigration server’s blacklist. He was immediately detained and questioned.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that Russel Pathan is the Joint Convener of Mymensingh Metropolitan Jubo League. He has been accused in many cases including the murder case of Ridwan Hossain Sagar, who was killed during the July movement.
In addition, several local and investigation-related sources have claimed that Russel is a close associate of ex-MP Mohit Ur Rahman Shanto of Mymensingh.
Benapole Immigration Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakhawat Hossain said that Russel’s name appeared on the blacklist while he was taking an exit-seal on his passport. After confirming the matter, he was detained. During preliminary questioning, Russell admitted that he is an accused in multiple cases. He was then handed over to Benapole Port Police Station.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Benapole Port Thana Ashraf Hossain said that immigration police handed him over to their custody and that he was sent to Mymensingh through the court in the afternoon.
Confirming the arrest, Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazmus Sakib said multiple cases including a murder are pending against Russel Pathan and preparations are underway to interrogate him in connection with those cases.
