Union Digital Center making women entrepreneurs in Rangpur

DHAKA, Dec 22, 2025 (BSS) – Union Parishad Digital Center in Haridevpur union of Rangpur district now playing a role in developing women entrepreneurs who are earning money through providing various services to the dwellers of the union.

Located 15 kilometers away from Rangpur district town, the union’s population is about 35,500 and most of them are farmers. There are also people of other professions in the villages of the union.

Starting from birth registration to applying for university admission, the general people of the villages can now do everything at this Union Parishad Digital Center. As a result, sufferings of the people travelling to and from far-flung districts and cities have reduced, and they are also happy to have digital services at their fingertips.

And the person who brought these services to the doorsteps of the common people in this center is the female entrepreneur Lovely Rani.

Local people said that although it was once plagued with various problems, now with the establishment of the Haridevpur Union Digital Center, people of different classes and professions, including students, businessmen, employees, daily wage earners, and others, are getting all the services at one place. This has reduced the suffering of the people as well as the waste of money and time. At the same time, many people have been employed in this center.

This digital center has changed the life of Lovely, a middle-class girl who grew up amidst various crises.

In a recent interview, she spoke about the days of struggle to become successful entrepreneur.

Lovely said that to embark on this path of entrepreneurial life, she had to experience various ups and downs and hear people's negative stories.

However, she ignored all these and passed the higher secondary examination and started working at the digital center in 2010.

She said, “At that time, my father was sick, suffering from cancer. My means of earning were closed. I heard about the government setting up a digital center. So, despite having no prior experience, I took the risk and started the work.”

According to Lovely, the eldest daughter of the family, in the beginning, she earned a nominal amount (service charges were charged on various services). “Still, I have kept my spirits up and kept going. I regularly ran from one village to another in the union. I told people about the benefits of the digital center, how to get the service and what kind of service is available - I explained in details about these issues. People also responded”, she added.

After such a struggle in the battle of life, which started with morale and hard work, the path of entrepreneur Lovely has changed.

Currently, she is a successful female entrepreneur of the digital center.

Employment arrangements have been made for eight men and women in her center.

Replying to a query, Lovely said, "My father is sick. I am the eldest child. I have just passed the higher secondary examination. And in this situation, I am worried about whether I will be able to continue my studies or not. And the responsibilities of the family also naturally fall on my shoulders. I tried to get a job, but failed.”

"Later, I found out the government's digital center. I started as an entrepreneur by establishing the Haridevpur Union Parishad Digital Center after contacting the concerned people,” she added.

About the initial days, she said, “Initially, no one would come to get services. I myself went to villages and explained to people about the services of the digital center. This is how people come to the center to get the services.”

“But there was a time when I couldn't even take home Taka 30 after a full day's work. Now I have employed 7/8 people in this digital center. I ride a scooty to travel 15 kilometers to work every day. Today, everyone inspires me and praises my works,” said Lovely.

In the meantime, Lovely got married. Her first child was born. At this time, another bad news came. Her husband lost a leg in an accident.

She said, her husband is at home paralyzed. He can't do work. As a result, she had to take responsibility for everything herself. However, despite all this, she continued her studies. She passed her master's degree.

Regarding the services of the digital center, entrepreneur Lovely said, "All the work that falls under the scope of digital services is provided at my center. The most customers come for land registration, document copies, e-registration, elderly, disabled, widow allowance, citizen and official applications, job forms, admission applications to domestic and foreign universities, birth registration, Union Parishad (UP) taxes, etc. Along with these, hundreds of people come here every day for photos, sending e-mails, electricity bills, computers and various online tasks. While no one used to come to avail these services at one time, now there is a rush of service recipients from morning to night.”

It is known that the Information and Communication Technology Department is providing services to people of all classes and professions at their doorsteps quickly, transparently, without harassment and at low cost by using information technology in the service activities of the Union Digital Center.

Another entrepreneur from Rangpur, Aleya Khatun, said that due to the establishment of the digital center, now they can get different services online without any problems. This system of government services is generating more revenue, which is helping to create other areas of development, she added.

Mallika Rani, a resident of Haridevpur Union, is a mother of two children. Since her husband was away for work, she came to the digital center to apply for the birth registration of her second child.

Mallika Rani said, “I had a lot of trouble registering the birth of my first child. I had to travel for a long time, I had to go to the upazila. But now there is a digital center in my union. They applied very quickly when they came here. There was no problem, I didn't have to go far, I came to Lovely Didi's digital center near my house and got the service instantly.”

A2I is working to make more such services easily and affordably available at the doorsteps of the common man across the country, said its Head of Communications Mohammad Saiful Azam.

He said so far, more than 350 services are being provided through about 8,900 digital centers across the country to the people. “The services that citizens of remote areas used to have to travel long distances to get from the concerned offices, but with the establishment of digital centers, they can easily get those services from digital centers in less time and at less cost. This initiative to provide services to the people’s doorsteps has been recognized internationally,” he added.

Saiful Azam said that more than 800 million services have already been provided to citizens through digital centers. Currently, more than 16,400 entrepreneurs have become self-reliant by providing services to citizens through digital centers. Of these, there are more than 5,200 women entrepreneurs.
