NATORE, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - An environmental organization has launched an innovative initiative in Natore's Chalan Beel by gifting winter clothes to informants who help prevent bird and wildlife poaching in the wetland.

The Chalanbil Biodiversity Conservation Committee began the program on Sunday morning with a leaflet distribution campaign at several points along the submerged roads of Chalanbil in Singra upazila. The campaign aims to raise awareness about protecting migratory birds and preserving the biodiversity of the wetland.

As part of the initiative, winter coats were presented to Abdul Karim and Shakib Sheikh for providing information on bird poaching in Indrasan Beel. Additionally, seven other individuals received winter coats in recognition of their contributions to protecting birds in the area at different times.

The event was attended by the committee's President Professor Akhtaruzzaman, General Secretary Saiful Islam, and other members of the organization.

Speaking on the occasion, Saiful Islam said the organization is organizing awareness meetings and distributing leaflets among local residents to ensure a safe habitat for migratory birds during winter and to conserve biodiversity in Chalan Beel.

"Alongside awareness activities, we are encouraging community participation by honoring informants who help prevent bird hunting," he added.
