BOGURA, Dec 21, 2025 (BSS) - Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested the main accused in the murder case of housewife Chandana Rani in Sariakandi upazila of the district.

The arrested accused, identified as Kajal Chandra, 25, son of Juren Chandra of Nijbalail area in Sariakandi, was apprehended from Rishipara in Hemayetpur area under Savar Police Station in Dhaka district on Saturday afternoon.

Lieutenant BN Wahiduzzaman, Company Commander of RAB-12, Bogura, confirmed the arrest on Sunday afternoon.

According to RAB sources, Chandana Rani was married to Nayan Chandra of the same area about six years ago. Following disputes after the marriage, Chandana left her husband's house and began living at her father's home. Later, Kajal Chandra allegedly took her to his residence and to Dhaka, promising to marry her. 

On June 14, Chandana went to Kajal's house, where she was allegedly tortured. At one stage, she was reportedly given poisonous tablets and sent back to her father's house in an unconscious condition by CNG. Family members later admitted her to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where she died while undergoing treatment.

Following her death, Chandana's uncle filed a murder case with the Sariakandi Police Station.

RAB-12 said that, acting on secret information, they learned that the absconding accused was hiding in the Hemayetpur area of Savar. A joint operation conducted by RAB-12 and RAB-4 led to his arrest.

The arrested accused has been handed over to Sariakandi Police Station for further legal proceedings.
