NARSINGDI, Dec 20, 2025 (BSS) - Police today arrested Ekramul Islam, Vice-President of Narsingdi District Awami League and an accused in a murder case linked to the anti-discrimination student movement, during 'Operation Devil Hunt.'

A team from Narsingdi Sadar Police Station arrested Ekramul, also a former President of the Narsingdi District Jubo League this afternoon.

Police said he was arrested on allegations of involvement in attacks on protesters, killings and subsequent acts of sabotage during the student-public mass uprising in Narsingdi on August 5.

Officer-in-Charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station Al Mamun said police have intensified operations to arrest criminals since the launch of Operation Devil Hunt. 

He added that Ekramul Islam is a named accused in a student murder case and that legal proceedings are underway to produce him before the court.
