LALMONIRHAT, Dec 19, 2025 (BSS) - Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized Indian cumin, sugar, and cannabis worth Tk 1,69,300 in separate operations along the Lalmonirhat borders.
Acting on intelligence reports, a BGB team conducted a special operation around 7:00 pm yesterday at the Gorkamandal BOP area under Phulbari thana in Kurigram district.
When a suspicious person was challenged, he fled toward India, leaving the goods behind. A search of the area led to the recovery of 4.2 kg of Indian cannabis.
In a separate operation around 9:30 pm the same day, a BGB patrol carried out a drive in the Namatari area under Dighaltari BOP in Lalmonirhat district. Suspects fled toward India, abandoning two bicycles and leaving behind 138 kg of Indian cumin and 55 kg of Indian sugar, which were seized by BGB.
According to BGB, the total seized items include 4.2 kg of cannabis worth Tk 14,700, 138 kg of cumin worth Tk 1,38,000, 55 kg of sugar worth Tk 6,600, and two bicycles valued at Tk 10,000.
Lt Col Mehdi Imam, Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat Battalion (15 BGB), said the force remains vigilant to keep the country's youth free from drugs. "Intelligence monitoring and patrol activities have been intensified in sensitive border areas to prevent smuggling and drug trafficking," he added.
Legal action is underway, including efforts to identify those involved in the smuggling network.
