BAGERHAT, Dec 18, 2025 (BSS) – Marking International Migrants Day and National Expatriates Day-2025 with the theme “We Will Take Skills Abroad, We Will Build Our Homeland with Remittances,” a rally and a discussion meeting were held in Mollahat upazila of the district today.
A colourful rally, organized by the Upazila administration, began at 11 am from the Upazila Parishad premises, marched through key roads of the upazila, and concluded at the same venue. A discussion meeting was later held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
Speaking as the chief guest at the meeting, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shyamananda Kundu said expatriate workers are the backbone of the country’s economy, as the remittances they send play a vital role in national development and progress.
He said that acquiring skills and receiving proper training before going abroad would help expatriate workers secure safe employment and ensure better financial benefits.
The UNO also urged people to refrain from going abroad illegally, stressing the importance of overseas employment through legal channels and sending remittances through formal means.
He added that the government has undertaken various initiatives to protect the rights and welfare of Bangladeshis working abroad and called upon expatriate workers to remain aware and stay in contact with the concerned authorities to avail themselves of these facilities.
Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Mohammad Hasan Ali, Upazila Agriculture Officer Md Matiyor Rahman, Press Club Mollahat General Secretary MM Mofizur Rahman, and TTC trainer Bhavesh Chandra Biswas addressed the meeting, which was chaired by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sushmita Saha.
Upazila Statistics Officer Md Haider Ali, Press Club Mollahat Vice Presidents Md Moniruzzaman Molla and Abdullah Faruk, journalists KM Mahmudul Haque and Shafiul Azam Nishan, among others, were present.
