MANIKGANJ, Dec 16, 2025 (BSS) - The Victory Day was celebrated today in the
district with due solemnity and enthusiasm, reaffirming the pledge to build a
prosperous and developed Bangladesh inspired by the spirit of the Liberation
War and the July-August uprising.
The day's programmes began at dawn with a 31-gun salute. The national flag
was hoisted atop all government, semi-government and private buildings, while
floral wreaths were placed at the Muktijuddher Smriti Stambho in tribute to
the martyrs.
Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana formally hoisted the national flag at
the Manikganj Shaheed Miraj-Tapon Stadium, accompanied by the playing of the
national anthem. School students participated in a parade and various display
programmes on the occasion.
Liberation War-based essay writing, recitation and painting competitions were
held at the Manikganj Shilpakala Academy and Shishu Academy.
A reception was accorded to the Freedom Fighters and family members of
martyred Freedom Fighters at the Shilpakala Academy, with Deputy Commissioner
Nazmun Ara Sultana in the chair. Gifts were distributed among the Freedom
Fighters and their families.
Special improved diets were served to inmates of the district jail, patients
at hospitals, children at Shishu Paribar orphanage and residents of shelter
homes.
Special prayers were offered at mosques and other places of worship, seeking
eternal peace for the martyred Freedom Fighters, good health for the living
Freedom Fighters and prosperity for the nation.
Friendly football matches, T-20 cricket matches, cabadi and other traditional
local games were also organised as part of the celebrations. Documentary
films on the Liberation War were screened for students, and public and
private buildings were illuminated in the evening.
