Illegal dyeing, battery factories' utility lines cut in Narsingdi

Narsingdi, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - The Department of Environment (DoE) has disconnected electricity, gas and water connections of four factories here in the district for operating illegally without environmental clearance and Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP).

The drive was conducted on Monday in areas under Sadar and Madhabdi police stations by the Narsingdi District Office of the Department of Environment, led by Executive Magistrate of the DoE Headquarters, Md. Sazzad Jahid Ratul.

Confirming the matter, Narsingdi DoE Deputy Director Md. Badrul Huda said three dyeing factories and one battery factory were found operating without environmental clearance and ETP facilities, and their utility connections were accordingly disconnected.

The factories are: Messrs Reham Textile in Chinishpur area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila, Bagdad Dyeing in Madhabdi, Messrs J & B Textile Mills in the same upazila, and Deng Feng Limited in Narsingdi Sadar.

According to the DoE, the concerned factories had been operating for a long time without environmental approval and without any effective waste treatment system, posing serious risks to the local environment and public health. In this context, their utility connections were disconnected in accordance with the law.

The Deputy Director further said that although the drive was carried out, utility connections of Messrs Aria Poultry Farm located in Birpur area of Narsingdi Sadar upazila were not disconnected. This is because the owner of the establishment filed a writ petition with the High Court Division on 24 September 2025, where a six-month stay order is currently in effect.

During the operation, Deputy Director Md. Badrul Huda along with other officials and staff of the Narsingdi DoE were present. A patrol team of district police and RAB-11 assisted in maintaining law and order.

Representatives of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, Narsingdi, and Narsingdi Palli Bidyut Samity-1 and 2 also provided necessary assistance in disconnecting electricity and gas connections.

The DoE noted such operations will continue to prevent environmental pollution and to ensure lawful industrial activities.
