Trader fined Tk 2 lakh for selling adulterated cumin in Tangail

TANGAIL, Dec 15, 2025 (BSS) - The District National Consumer Rights Protection Department on Monday fined a trader Taka 2 lakh for selling adulterated cumin in Tangail.

The fine was imposed on Malek Enterprise, located on Elenga College Road in Kalihati upazila, during a mobile court drive led by Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director of the District National Consumer Rights Protection Department.

According to officials, the owner of the establishment, Barek Mia, had been mixing low-quality cumin with imported Indian and Egyptian cumin, as well as cumin sourced from different districts of the country. 

The adulterated product was being marketed in packets under the brand name New Diamond Cumin.

Asaduzzaman Rumel said the fine was imposed for selling adulterated products, which is a punishable offence under consumer protection laws.

Upazila Sanitary Inspector Nazma Akhter, along with members of the police and army, were present during the operation.
