RAJSHAHI, Dec 14, 2025 (BSS) - People from all walks of life, including various institutions, political, socio-cultural and volunteer organizations, alongside educational institutions including Rajshahi University (RU), today observed Martyred Intellectuals Day here, paying rich tribute to the martyred intellectuals.

Marking the day, a series of programmes, including placing floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar, photo exhibitions, public gatherings, discussion meetings and candle lighting at mass graves, were held across the city throughout the day.

Rajshahi City Corporation observed the day through various programmes, including placing floral wreaths at the memorial plaque in front of the Collectorate Building, paying homage to the martyred intellectuals.

The district administration organized a discussion meeting at its conference hall to mark the day, with Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhter presiding over the programme. Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Dr ANM Bazlur Rashid addressed the meeting as the chief guest at this meeting.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi University observed the day through elaborate day-long programmes, including placing floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, discussion meetings, milad mahfil and probhat ferry.

RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Saleh Hassan Naquib addressed the programme as the chief guest, while Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Khan and Treasurer Prof Matiar Rahman spoke. Prof Mayeen Uddin chaired the discussion.

The vice-chancellor, along with other teachers, officers and students, also placed wreaths at the RU Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of the day.

On the occasion, the RU Shaheed Smrity Sangrahashala remained open for visitors.

Besides, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) and the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi observed the day separately through similar programmes.

At RUET, Vice-Chancellor Prof SM Abdur Razzaque, Students' Welfare Deputy Director Prof Abdullah Al Mahmud and Registrar Arif Ahmed Chowdhury, among others, addressed the discussion meeting.
