KHULNA, Dec 13, 2025 (BSS) - BNP Student Affairs Secretary and Khulna-3 constituency candidate Rakibul Islam Bakul today said BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia has played an unparalleled role in safeguarding democracy and upholding the spirit of the Liberation War.
"Her recovery is not only a concern of BNP; it is the expectation of the entire nation. Irrespective of political affiliation, Begum Zia is a national leader. To 180 million people, she now holds the status of a mother figure - the mother of the nation," he said.
Bakul was speaking as the chief guest at a doa and exchange of views meeting organised by the Bagerhat District Welfare Association in Khalishpur, seeking the recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia.
He said Begum Zia is the only woman in the country's history to have served as prime minister three times, noting that her long experience in running the state has naturally placed her at the centre of national leadership.
From imprisonment during the 1/11 period to the present, she has remained at the forefront of movements demanding the restoration of democracy, Bakul said, adding that her contribution to increasing women's participation and empowerment in politics has been significant.
"She has been a source of inspiration for many women leaders. From villages to cities, she consistently prioritised the poor, labourers, farmers and marginalised people. The idea of a welfare state is clearly reflected in her party's policies," he added.
Earlier in the day, Bakul demonstrated compliance with the Election Commission's directives by initiating the removal of banners and signboards after Jumma prayers.
Visiting different areas of the Khulna-3 constituency, he removed his own campaign materials alongside party leaders and activists and instructed party workers to follow suit, saying the party would fully comply with the Election Commission's directives.
