RANGPUR, Dec 12, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested a youth Morsalin, 22, on charges of involvement in the murders of freedom fighter Yogesh Chandra Roy, 75, and his wife Surbana Roy, 60, in Taraganj upazila of the district.
"We arrested Morsalin, a mason's assistant, from Shermast Balapara area of Taraganj upazila in the early hours on Friday," Investigation Officer (OC) of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) Abu Saiyum Talukder said.
Morsalin worked as a mason's assistant at Yogesh Chandra's house to set tiles two days before the murders.
Earlier on Saturday night, retired freedom fighter and retired Primary School Headmaster Yogesh Chandra Roy and his wife were brutally murdered in their home in Rahimapur village of Taraganj upazila.
On Sunday morning, neighbors found their bodies after knocking on their doors.
In this incident, the slain couple's eldest son Shoven Chandra Roy filed a murder case with Taraganj Police Station.
During the initial interrogation, the arrested person confessed to his involvement in the brutal double murder, said Md Ruhul Amin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Taraganj Police Station.
"A drive is underway at a pond near the house of slain Yogesh Chandra Roy to recover the weapon used in the murder. We have already recovered an axe handle from the pond where the water drainage continues," the OC told BSS at 2:45 pm today.
Police have obtained important information from the arrested person. However, details are not being disclosed at this time for the sake of investigation.
